Building AI that can understand people and the world around them
We are world leaders in human-centered computing and physical AI, developing multimodal intelligent systems that can understand people, perceive the physical world, and work alongside us in useful and intuitive ways.
Most AI today lives behind a screen. Our work focuses on what comes next: AI that can see, sense, understand, learn, reason and act in the real world.
By bringing together artificial intelligence, computer vision and perception, human-computer interaction, robotics, and intelligent environments, we create technologies that can understand what is happening around them and respond in ways that support people. More coming soon. Stay tuned.
Our vision is fundamentally people-centered.
We believe AI should augment human abilities and performance, not replace human beings. We accomplish this by designing intelligent systems that support people make better decisions, perform difficult tasks more safely, learn new skills, remain independent longer, and accomplish things that may otherwise be difficult or impossible.
What does that mean for you?
Imagine technology that can recognize when a child or older adult may need assistance, help a clinician better understand a patient’s movement and recovery, support a worker performing a complex manufacturing task, or coach an athlete improve performance while reducing the risk of injury.
These systems do more than process information. They can understand human activity and the surrounding environment, reason about what is happening, and provide real-time assistance at the moment it is needed.
The goal is to make technology feel less like a tool we have to operate and more like an intuitive partner that understands context and can help.
Healthcare: Technology for rehabilitation, patient monitoring, & clinical diagnosis & decision-making
Sports: Technology unlocking deeper understanding of athletes' movement, technique, fatigue, & injury prevention
Manufacturing & other Skilled Industries: Technology that improve safety, product quality, training, & human performance
Smart Environments (smart home, classroom, etc) & Eldercare: Technology that helps people live more safely and independently while providing support when it is truly needed
